I downloaded and installed Photoshop CS5 to a new computer. Tools are not working. The move and resize tool in particular, but several of the others as well (paint bucket, select, etc.) . I don't know if it's a coincidence but I opened Bridge for the first time just before.

How exactly are they not working?

What OS version are you using?

Did you make sure to install all the Photoshop CS5 updates?

Yesterday it wouldn't move an image either.

That sounds like you have the "show transform controls" option turned off in the move tool options bar (but used to have it on). And if auto select is on, you may have selected a different layer when clicking with the move tool.

Maybe. I only downloaded CS5 on this new computer and got the key entered to install it the day before. But possibly I did select something wrong. Where do I fix that, Preferences? I don't think auto select is on.

Howdy Susan,

The "Show Transform Controls" icon looks like nine dots laid out in a box pattern in the current version of Photoshop.  CS5 is PRETTY OLD so I cannot guarantee the icon was the same five and a half years ago.  But, the icon should be the third or fourth over from the left in the Options Bar when the Move tool is active.  You should be able to mouse over the icons to determine which is which.

Hope that helps,
Thanks,
David

David, thank you. In CS5 the icon doesn't look as described, it's the words with a check box. But knowing what to look for did the trick, once I made the Move tool active.
