Tif files with layers are crashing photoshop and lightroom once the saving progress goes to 92-96%. Saving progress bar stays put until you force quit the application. A computer restart is needed to launch photoshop as well as lightroom. When the file is re-opened in photoshop after the restart, the layered Tif is flattened with the new adjustments. This only happens occasionally (when you need it not to, and it ruins your progress from your original raw). I was able to recreate it using a tif on an external LaCie HD Drive, but I wasnt able to reproduce it from a tif on the internal drive yet to confirm. But I think it happened with a tif on the internal yesterday. This is since upgrading to Mac OS Catalena. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone???

Cheers!

It would be helpful if you could get us the following:

Help>System Info...

  1. Installed Photoshop Version Number
  2. Installed Lightroom Version Number

Great point, I’m on the latest versions of both on subscription and I use the desktop version of lightroom

I am not finding any crash reports under the email address you've registered on this forum.  Do you get a crash dialog that offers the ability to report the crash? Is it an OS dialog or an Adobe-branded dialog?

No dialogs, the app just hangs I guess you could say. I let it hang for two hours at one point to make sure. I have to force quit photoshop to get it to run and also restart the computer. As for lightroom, once the file screws up, the referenced photo (in the case that it’s an edit in photoshop from lightroom file) within lightroom won’t respond, and the app also hangs. Force quit is necessary. But the apps won’t work again until I restart.

Have you attempted a clean reinstall of both apps?

I believe it is the saving to external drives that is the issue, just as this thread is discussing.
