Then new Enhance feature in LR rejects my .CR2 files but does work with my .NEF images.  However, the difference is hardly discernible. Not sure why this option was added if you can't easily see a change?

You need a Bayer cencor or x-trans rawfile to benefit from the Enhance details. You also should be very, very focused on small details, or need to make very large prints. I also thing you need a big print or at least a top monitor to discover the difference. I thing you just forget about the CR2 or NEF files.

View at 100% and if you have a fair amount of fine detail, you should see the difference easily enough. As Mr. Hoddevik says, it's intended for larger prints, not web viewing or 5x6 prints, etc.

That said, I would like to see the feature allow for a greater range. We should be allowed to creatively destroy our images. The range prevents us from making a hash of it, but making a hash of it is precisely how we broaden our horizons on what can be AND learn to be judicious in the application of these features.

Usually, though, I am applying it below the 50% range, mainly because I only attempt using it on images with important fine detail. It's not a rescue technology for images that have very poor image resolution to start with, far as I've been able to tell trying it on older scans and early digital files, but it does a very nice job on decent images that will be used at full size or even a bit scaled up.

As for rejecting your .CR2 files, I have no clue why. I shoot NEF and it works just fine there, as you said.

Since my post I found other CR2s that Enhance will accept.
Must have been some corruption in the .CR2s I initially tried.

The feature does not work with sRaw/mRaw files in case your tests made with either of these?

I too agree that you really can’t see much change(if any) but here’s a good read to the possible why and which images they work best on https://theblog.adobe.com/enhance-det...
