Photoshop: The Oil Paint filter with variables

I was hoping that further development was being done to make the oil paint filter more powerful by adding further ability to change variables. I may be showing my age but in "ancient times" I had the opportunity to beta for XaosTools and KPT products ... filters-Bryce. Anyhow ... Xaotools was an amazingly powerful tool too soon ... with today's computer power it would open up a new avenue for artists like myself. Same with KPT/Metacreation tools/filters. It was a real loss to not see those ported over to the new OS. Maybe doable now ... bet the IP would be reasonable :) Thanks .. Ira ...

I miss KPT's Fractal app, part of KPT6? Metacreations became different things.  Bryce still exists through DAZ3D, but it hasn't been updated so it's only a 32 bit app. Metacreations Painter became Corel Painter. I know I had something else from them, but can't remember what now. I knew about XaosTools, but never owned it. Just KPT through KPT6. I'd also love to see Fo2Pix come back, or rather, the idea behind it where it offered a series of filters with variations and you could sort of hand-clone paint them into the main document— but the owner didn't want to sell it to anyone.

For more paint filter variables, you probably will need to look to Topaz Impression and/or Alien Skin SnapArt (they're both quite different if you haven't tried them). Adobe has never seemed to want to compete  with 3rd party providers. They brought back the Oil Paint filter by popular request, though, so you never know. Perhaps you could be more specific about what you want the filter to do?
