Just lost several minutes of work on a file in ACR. I hit the Escape key, meaning to undo some adjustments. For some reason in ACR this cancels and closes the RAW file. Can't say how many times I've done this and had to start over on a file. Wish they would not assign this function to the Escape key when using ACR. I can select the cancel button if I want to discard my adjustments.

The Esc key dismisses dialogs and return/enter accept and applies the dialog. This is a standard convention across the OS and applications.

But within Photoshop one can hit the escape key and back out of some adjustments. That's where the confusion arises when using ACR.

That's correct. Those are dialogs or modal operations. Again, it's a standard convention of the OS. I'm not aware of any way to override this. Sorry.
