Photoshop CS6: text tool "return" goes to beginning of line instead of new line

Text tool not working in CS6 (OS 10.8.2). Return key not working correctly. If I hit the return key to start another line, it goes to the being of the sentence I just typed. Here is what the Console saw (while the error is occurring, the computer heats up to 180F):

The console spew has nothing to do with the error you're seeing.

Most likely you just have the leading (the distance from line to line) set to zero or a very small number.
