Photoshop CC 20.0.2: Text Editing is a Mess

Large text in high-resolution documents is cut off on top, even though it looks fine while editing text.  Sometimes resizing the text box makes it come back, sometimes not.  If I highlight text to edit it, only the bottom half of it is highlighted, and when scaling or moving, sometimes parts of the text disappear until you apply the transform.  Sometimes when editing, only the bottom half of the text edits while the top half of the text remains in place, making a massive confusing mess.  When you export to PDF, fonts and formatting are sometimes completely lost.  Most fo the time when creating new text boxes, it defaults to 0.01 pt font, and if you accidentally click off the text before changing the size, you lose it entirely, have to delete the layer, and try again.  I have tried with Legacy Compositing both on and off.  Also tried resetting all settings back to default, even though this is a fresh install of 20.0.2 on a brand new computer.  Happy to make my machine available to look at anything you need to get this fixed.  Photoshop is basically unusable right now for me.

Update 20.0.3 applied overnight.  All these problems are still there, except the issue with the top of the text being cut off.  If you edit a text box that is cut off and apply the change, it will no longer be cut off.

Howdy Brad,

What you're seeing looks like a problem with your video card, not with Photoshop.  Have you tried turning off your GPU?  What kind of card do you have?  You might want to check if there's a newer driver.

Font size has always been based off the last thing you did.  Check your Options Bar or Character Panel when you first activate the Type tool.

Thanks,
David

Unfortunately, I have the same problem with the Graphics Processor option checked and unchecked.  Intel UHD graphics card; computer is 2 weeks old.

Regarding the font tool, when I select it, the font says size 15 in both the character window and on the top font bar.  As soon as I click to place text, the size changes back to 0.01pt again every time.

Thanks for responding.

Howdy Brad,

No worries!  Let's get you working again...

Was this text transformed?  If you start with a new document, do you have the same problems?  Do you know where this document came from?

I'm teaching this afternoon, so only responding for a bit longer.  But I'll follow up again tomorrow.  We can also do a web-hosted screenshare to troubleshoot, if you'd like.

Let me know,
David

This was a new document created in this version of Photoshop.  I am certain at some point the text was transformed.

I tried your recommendation to create a new document, and a lot of the problems went away.

Let me do a bit more exploring.  Maybe the documents I have been using were corrupted in 20.0.2, and those created by 20.0.3 are good again?

Hi Brad,

Your specific file probably became corrupted.  There are no bugs like this in Type that I'm aware of and that's my core area.

Thanks,
David
