With iOS 10 now supporting RAW and the .DNG file format, it really is a shame that you can't connect your camera (via usb and lightning adapter) directly to your iPad and shoot tethered to the Lightroom Mobile App.

Has this been looked at? Can this be looked at? Am I missing this amazing feature?

Whenever I plug my Canon 7D Mk II into it's USB 3 cable and the male end into the USB-to-lightning adapter, all it does is try to import my photos to the Photos app.

Thanks!

To me it feels like the limitation is in the ISO software. Have you tried automatic WiFi traansfer with adapter or Eye-Fi? I think that would be a nice solution only it would fill up the iPad memory fast..

iPads have up to 256gb of storage these days. I don't think that would be a limitation. Unfortunately eye-fi cards are less than stellar in my experience. Tethering to a laptop is an fantastic experience and I think having it on iOS would be equally great.
