I recently upgraded from Photoshop 10 to 11 and have been getting system failures on a regular basis... I keep getting windows messages that say my application has shutdown unexpectedly and that they will report the issue to microsoft and it is always photoshop elements 11 that has stopped working... is anyone else experiencing this problem and if so what is being done to resolve it.... I am running windows 7 ...

What does the crash report say? What is the name of the faulting module?

Have you installed all the available updates for Elements?

Have you done any troubleshooting on your system?

The message comes in two boxes.... the first one says Photoshop elements 11 has stopped working windows will check to see if there is a fix for the problem... then the second box appears and it says windows has detected an error with photoshop elements that has caused the program to stop running we will report this error to microsoft and see if there is a fix available...

also it should be noted that if I have a picture open in the editor at the time to work on it, that picture comes back with a fractured box in the screen meaning they no longer have access to it in the catalog I would assume, since I find the pictures on my harddrive and I can restore them by saying get files again...

to the best of my knowledge I have auto update on for photoshop elements and the same for windows... I have looked at the memory in the system and I have about 5 gb free at any one time... I do have a catalog with over 100k entries, could this be causing the problem.... I appreciate any assistance you can provide Chris....

Hey Chris,
Have you forgotten about me????? I am really frustrated as it is now a month since I heard from you and I am still having the problem....every time I open the organizer and don't do anything for about 2 minutes it crashes just as I described above... I have looked on other websites for suggestions and have tried a couple of things like changing the default printer and looking to see if there are any add ons running etc.
so far no good ... Have you any ideas????

Hi Bill, it sounds like a possible video card driver issue. Have you gone to your video card manufacturers website and tried installing the latest driver?

Hi Jeff,
I tried this yesterday and it crashed my system when I loaded the new driver... I have and NVIDIA card in the laptop but I am also using a 23" dell monitor on the system and I have had issues with putting the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers on before... I tried it anyway and had to restore my system afterwards because the system crashed.... I don't know if this will give you any other ideas, but it seems as though the organizer only crashes when it is opened and not in use for a period of time, like when I got to the editor.... before I can return to the organizer it will crash with the messages I told you about however the editor continues to work....Please let me know if you can think of anything else....

If the system crashed, it's likely a hardware or low level driver issue. I suspect the video card itself.

Hi Jeffrey,
I don't think it is the video card as this is the only app that fails... Adobe photoshop elements 9 still works fine as does internet explorer and all of my other apps. Have you had this issue with other folks??? I've looked on google and other places and have found various references to photoshop elements 11 crashing... might it help if I uninstalled it and reinstalled it????
thanks, Bill

I wouldn't go to the extreme of uninstalling and reinstalling. Internet Explorer and Elements 9 don't leverage the GPU the same way that Elements 11.
