Lightroom Classic: Synch problems

Lots of files not synching, stalling the synch process.

Hello. I use Lightroom Classic to Auto Import my images and then synch them with my Adobe Cloud. I then use Lightroom CC to put the images into Albums so that they can be viewed on IOS devices. The problem I have is that Lightroom Classic is reporting it is synching 317 images, but it has been doing that for over 3 weeks. It looks like it is stalled.

Classic says it has All Photographs at 39,381 and Synched Photographs as 38,376, so not everything is being synched, although I haven't told it not to synch anything.


I suspect that, because it is trying to synch these 317 images,  it is not able to  synch the new Auto Import images  - they all appear in All Photographs in Classic, but since they are not synched, Lightroom CC doesn’t see them, and neither does the IOS device.

How cam I remove these 317 images that it claims are synching but which are not. Once they go, I assume normal synching will start again. If I hit Preferences, on th eLightroom Sync tab, I can see a list of files that are not synching - unfortunately I cannot delete them.

Can anybody help?

Hi Walter, I have similar problems, my photos are synchronized with the cloud but are not locally stored at my iPad. If I watch a photo on the iPad for several seconds I is locally stored. But this approach does not really work for thousands of photos. Seem LR 8.4 has an issue with syncing. I am in contact with the hotline but no workable solution by now. Greetings Bernhard

Hi Walter, Sorry for the issue. Can you send us Diagnostic report for further understanding .
You can generate Diagnostic Report by following steps
1. Goto Preferences -> Lightroom Sync
2. Press and hold alt/option
3. Generate Diagnostic Report.

Please share the zipped file with us.

While you're getting the diagnostic report, you may also want to look for "missing images" in you LR catalog.  LR can't sync a photo that it can't create (or find) a Smart Preview for and it can't create a Smart Preview if it can't find the image on disk.

Hi Dan,

I'm having similar problems since Classic 8.4 I'm interested in where you can find the 'missing images' in the LR Catalog. I can take your point that LR can't sync it can't find etc.

Go to Libray>Find All Missing Photos. It will create a collection of what's missing

Jerry - thanks for the tip. I tried your suggestion - but it showed 26,564 missing images! The difference between All Photos and All synched photos is 1,005 photos, and the "Synching Photos" are 317 - I guess 317 of the 1,005. So it didn't work.

I think you should still look into why those 26,564 are missing/ offline. Maybe the majority of that was synced before the drive went offline, not sure. When you go into 'Lightroom Sync', under Preferences, what does it say in the Sync Activity section? If there are hyperlinks in there, you should be able to click on them and it should take you to the file. You can then investigate further i.e. are those files missing from the catalog? Hopefully Suhas would get back to you regarding the Diagnostic Report as that would shed more light than our speculation.

Hi Walter,

When you go to https://lightroom.adobe.com/ do you see anything called as 'Sync Issues' ? 
This particular collection has all the images that are not fully synced. You can probably use this as a reference to take an action on your images.
