I would love to have “Folders” in Mobile sync to “Collection Sets” to Classic please.

You mean in order to retrieve the folders name instead of letting the import setting to deal with that?

Nope.
I mean why don’t the folders created on LR Mobile sync over to L R Classic as a Collection Set.

I think I get it: you mean as sets with the collections inside it? On order to gain a level of hierarchy ?

Yup that or rename collections to folders.

I'd like it too, but just to set expectations, they've said that they're not planning to add any new sync functionality to LR Classic, but are focusing their cloud efforts on the CC apps.

Lightroom Classic is, and always has been, a desktop-focused app. They tried to shoehorn cloud functionality into it, but the concepts are just too different. Both the desktop and the cloud want to be in charge of the photos, and that results in all sorts of issues.

They could waste a load of effort trying to patch more sync functionality into Classic, but it still would never be fully compatible and all that effort would take away from other improvements. Instead, they're focusing their efforts on each apps strengths - CC on "access everywhere" and Classic on the powerful desktop editing software it was built to be.

The politics behind why developments of Classics has been stopped is not of the user’s business. Even more: by forcing the users to buy a subscription based soft, it is their job to continue the development of this soft and to improve it. And it’s clearly not the case. I looks like a forever in beta phase.

Many of the functions asked here on the forum are either easily implemented or even bugs! Or bugs “by design”. Syncing the folders (or collections, ...) name could easily be implemented. When I first tried the sync feature, I was stunned by this omission. The same holds true for the keywords.

I share your frustration that some things like synching keywords and collection sets is not possible. It's easy to say that something would be easy to implement, but as we have no access to the Lightroom source code, that is pure speculation however.

Indeed, we don’t have access to the source code, but a little critical sense tells me that syncing a set of strings shouldn’t be that difficult. It seems obvious to me that this is a deliberate choice, maybe to force people towards the full cloud version. (A place where they can control your pictures an prevent you from going elsewhere)

It's a little more than 'synching a set of strings'. What I happen to know is that the problem of synching keywords is that Lightroom Classic has hierarchical keywords. That means that two keywords can be the same, but nested in different hierarchies. That is apparently the biggest problem when you try synching them, and right now Lightroom CC simply does not support hierarchical keywords at all (yet).

Yes, it would be great if Adobe adopted a pragmatic view of syncing features like this, rather than freezing sync at an arbitrary point. I think we can all understand the issue of hierarchical keywords, which just don't exist in LRCC, but it's not as if other fields like collection sets or folders and the 4 IPTC location fields are any more difficult to sync than title or caption, or all of that adjustment metadata.

Agreed. I don't believe in conspiracy theories, and I don't believe they did this to 'control your pictures and prevent you from going elsewhere'. They already launched a utility to retrieve your photos from the cloud, and Lightroom CC can store a copy of all the originals locally anyway, so nobody holds a gun to your head and forces you to stay with Adobe. But the choice to freeze further sync features with Lightroom Classic at this point seems arbitrairy indeed.
