Lightroom: Sync between CC and Classic

Originally subscribed to LR CC and 1TB of cloud storage, found out later that it's missing so many features of the Classic that we decided to upgrade to the bundle Classic, CC and Photoshop ... tried to sync all photos ... it took forever. BUT ... now instead of having all the photos in albums, they are all in one massive file  ... all 2500 of them.
In CC - they are in albums, in Classic - it's a mess ...
Any suggestions? I have now read so many of the posts here that I am seriously baffled.

Walk us through the exact steps? What do you see in the Classic collections panel? Is there a folder called From Lightroom CC Sync or similar?

I have just opened the Classic again ... it has been over a week since we did the sync and for the first time under From LR CC, which was not there before either - there are files with photos ... still baffled but will take that :) Does this mean that the sync is quite slow??? We do have high speed fibre internet and my laptop is new ...
Now question where are these photos stored now??? Should I store them also on my external hard drive ... still learning and will appreciate any and all suggestions and tips.
Thank you for your reply :)

In the Preferences dialog > Lightroom Sync tab, you can set a custom location for new downloads, perhaps where you store your other photos.

Ones that have already downloaded to the default location will be in a special folder (location depends on your OS) but you can select them in Grid view and drag them to a "normal" folder on your hard drive.

You will want to make sure that you have everything backed up to additional hard drives. If you do nothing else, go download the free eBook from my Lightroom Queen website so you understand the absolute essentials of using Lightroom Classic, as I'd hate to hear you'd lost your photos in a hard drive crash or suchlike.

My experience in sync'ing from CC to Classic is that it is slow, and depending on the quantity of images can take hours (hundreds or more images).  But I'm in the USA and our internet speeds are less than stellar.
I think the easy way to find the location of your images is (in Grid View, Catalog, 'All Synced Photographs') Right Click an image thumbnail, then in the Dropdown window select 'Go To Folder In Library'.  (I'm on a Win 10 PC, Mac might be a little different.)
The resulting Folder view shows that specific image in the overall folder structure. Now that you're in Folders sub-Panel, you can reorganize/rename folders. If you need help with that, check out Victoria's blog/web page/books - I think she just terrific. (I hope an unsolicited plug on the forum is OK.)
I'm assuming you are new to Lightroom - be sure to do ALL your photo re-organization (and editing) in LR, otherwise you will likely have other problems, possibly even lost images.  This a huge 'gotcha' for new users.  Once you've starting using LR, do all your photo work through the LR platform.
Best of luck.  I hope some of this might be helpful.
