Hi. Lightroom doesn't seem to be able to handle panoramas created with my Samsung S7 Edge. They import OK but do not show with a preview and cannot be manipulated. Going to Develop give a "The file appears to be unsupported or damaged" error.

What file format are these panoramas? And how are they being imported into Lightroom?

They are JPEG's but wide aspect ratios. The pixel size of the one I'm having problems with today is 10400x2144. Is it just a maximum pixel limit?

They are uploaded from the phone to a Dropbox folder on my PC and them imported using the standard Lightroom Import dialogue. Normal aspect ratio photos work well, it's just panoramas created with the built-in panorama mode of the phone camera.

Photos can be no larger than 65,000 pixels along the longest edge, and no more than 512 megapixels (not megabytes)—whichever is smaller—so it's not a size limit. JPEGs should be no problem either. You might need to share a link to one of the files so the engineers can investigate further.

Happy to share an example - do I do that via this forum?

Yeah, that would be great if you're comfortable doing so, or send the link to me at uploads@lightroomqueen.com if that's preferable.

Hard to believe, but the Samsung S7 Edge produces JPEGs that don't conform with industry standards:

As a result, some applications can read them, and some can't. The workaround is to open the photo in a compatible application and resave it.  (See the link above for a partial list of compatible applications.)

Thanks John for the specific cause. I'll report a bug with Samsung. Meantime I'll try and find a workflow that works for me with a third party app.
