Suggestion: Free, Library only version of Lightroom

My partner uses Lightroom 5 in permanent trial mode. This is where Lightroom allows you to keep using the Library module, but not Develop or anything that edits photos.

She uses it for:
- Organising folders
- Tagging images (LR is THE best for keywording)
- General filtering and culling

While LR isn't the fastest cat around for scrolling through images on an old i5 laptop, it just happens to do all the above really well, with great keyboard shortcuts.

To her, the Develop module isn't worth paying either the one-off or Creative Cloud price for - especially as Adobe is putting it up to the equivalent of NZD$15 per month. I know you could argue this is a small sum, feel free to go argue that with her :)

Point being, there might be a business model for getting people into using LR.
Give them a free Library version, which is awesome, and then they might want to upgrade to use the full LR.

My 2 cents :)

You can already do that, as your partner has found - they just don't really advertise it.  Your partner can even upgrade to LR6 on the same basis!

Toon, Lightroom carries on working even when you stop paying.  Only Develop module, Map module and mobile sync stop working.  So you can continue finding your photos even after you retire.
