Photoshop: Why should I register using my Adobe ID?

Hi,

I just downloaded Photoshop CS6. While installation I had to enter my serial number. After installation and running CS6 a windows popped up. I tells: "Please register Photoshop with our Adobe ID in 7 days or Photoshop will not work anymore"

Please to me, why should I ? I bought a legal copy and I have a legal serial number. Why am I forced to register? I don't want to. If this constraint will not stop, I will discontinue Adobe Upgrade Plan.

Thank for listening
Martin

ID’s are everywhere these days and most users already have log-ins for Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, iTunes, etc. which bring a level of security and personalization to an account.

Once you install Photoshop CS6, you will be asked to hop online and use your Adobe ID to activate your software.

Not only does this activate your software, but it also ensures the following:

With a traditional license (non-subscription), you will only be asked to only do this once, when you install your product. If you're not online at the time of install, you will have 7 days to go online and complete this process.

If you've opted for a Creative Cloud or subscription version, you will need to be online once every 30 days to verify your subscription status.

If you need help creating your Adobe ID, please consult the following documents for assistance:

Another option, is a live chat with an agent who will answer any questions you may have about your Adobe ID or product activation:

Sorry I didn't feel to be understood.

Your answer sound for me like as an explanation who I should do it. But this is not a satisfied answer to me.

I don't want to do this, because I have a legal serial number. And it is always the same with legal bought software or game. The honest buyer will be forced to install something or to register. This people how uses an unofficial patch won't have to. This is frustrating.

My license is volume license. Know I have go to every PC and enter my ID. Don't you think this is annoying?

I think you don't have the permission to change this, so please tell someone who is in charge to change this annoying enforcement of registration with Adobe-ID. Forcing on registration is the best you can do to make people hate Adobe.
There are other ways for protecting software on illegal usage.

Here a short summery:

Regestration

I paid for a software and I'm not allowed to use it without registration !?
This is like: Buying a car and your have to send you ID to the company to get the key.

If you've opted for a Creative Cloud or subscription version, you will need to be online once every 30 days to verify your subscription status.

What? If I'm not able to connect to Adobe I can't use my legal bought software.
This is like: you have to contact the car company to be allowed to drive your car for the next 30 days.

I hope that give you(Adobe) an idea of that my problem is.

And, before I forget:
Thanks for change thread title from "Stop this registration constraint" to "Photoshop: Why am I forced to register using my Adobe ID?"
Its fits better and tells me different things:
1. I don't have a problem with the Adobe registration
2. this is not a registration enforcement
3. you understand me batter than me myself
4. Adobe don't like this kind of criticism

Thanks you for changing this enforcement

"My license is volume license. Know I have go to every PC and enter my ID. Don't you think this is annoying?"

The AAME deployment kit will allow deployment of multiple seats. You only need to log in once to register all seats for deployment.

"This is like: Buying a car and your have to send you ID to the company to get the key."

You do have to register your car for tax and license in order to get a license plate to drive on the roads legally, no?

"What? If I'm not able to connect to Adobe I can't use my legal bought software.
This is like: you have to contact the car company to be allowed to drive your car for the next 30 days."

This is only for a subscription. The software needs to know if you've made your monthly payment. If you haven't, then the software won't be reactivated.

Yes I have. And sorry, to have a license plate or a car key for 30 day is something different.

So you tell me that I didn't bought the software but I bought the permission to use it for the next two years? ( two year upgrade plan ) When this time is over I can't use CS6 and upcoming versions anymore?
And way do I have a serial number for CS6 ?

Again, the 30 day requirement is only for *subscription* versions of the software.

If you buy the perpetual license, you activate once using your Adobe ID and that license is perpetual. It doesn't expire after two years. You can continue to use your product just as you have with licenses you purchased in the past for CS5 and earlier.

And what about this Upgrade Plan? Is this a subscription? If not, why do I have to register with my Adobe-ID?

Upgrade plan? Not sure what you're referring to. You can continue to use and upgrade Photoshop as you always have in the past. Subscriptions and Creative Cloud are merely new options for users.

You have to register with your Adobe ID to activate your product, register your serial number and verify that you've got genuine software. This isn't to punish honest customers. It's there to protect customer interests as well as Adobe's. I've helped a growing number of folks who've been affected by piracy or lost serials and that this is our best defense to avoid these problems and the heartache they cause customers.

Upgrade Plan see here: http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/volum...

>This isn't to punish honest customers.
If I have to, it is.
>It's there to protect customer interests as well as Adobe's
Why isn't it optional? And with an good explanation?
Please Let me decide if I like this interesting feature.

Do you feel punished when you have to log in to read your email, participate on Facebook, download an app from app store, or post on a forum? IDs are required for securing most products these days.

With Volume Licensing upgrade plan, you only need to use your Adobe ID to register and activate once when you deploy using AAMEE 3.0 (which will be available May 14th). When you use AAMEE 3.0 to prepare the deploy pkg there is no ID required or activation on the client machines

It was optional in the past and users didn't do it and we had to deal with lost serials and users who purchased counterfeit product.

Hi,

maybe this helps you to understand:
I didn't had the need to register. And when your are forced to do something without a reason you are enforced.

So if you force people to register than tell them a good reason why. I found this reason in this thread. I don't feel punished to login to read my email, because I have a reason. In this case "I want to read my email that belongs to given email address". At Photoshop I don't want to register, because I have a serial number to run Photoshop. There is no known benefit for me to register.

Hi,

you told me I don't have to register every Photoshop installation. Sorry that's wrong. For every installation I had to inter my Adobe ID. It's realy annoying.

So Again:
I have a legal copy and I'm punished annoying thinks like entering Serial Number AND Adobe ID. Please punish all the people with an illegal copy of your products but not that one how are an honest buyer.

My mother is 78 years old. She wants to use the software without having to navigate through an alert box that always comes up when she creates an album, and I can't turn it off for her.

Would you make YOUR parents jump through those hoops???

I have been trying to register for Photoshop CS6 Student & Teachers Edition and when I type in my ID it greys out and shows a loading animation indefinitely. I don't want to lose Photoshop, but it says I will if I do not register. However, like I said, the registration is broken! I was able to install Photoshop, but I can't sign in to Adobe! Please help!!

EDIT: no, I did not forget my ID or password. I even had to log in to post this

Hi Brandon,

I see your Photoshop as being registered correctly under your Adobe ID. You should be all set.

I was told I did not need to worry about the registration thing about seven days ago. However, today, I tried to open photoshop and it told me I had to log in to use it. I typed in my correct password and the login screen greyed out and there was a spinning loading sign in the bottom right corner. It has been doing this for hours now and I cannot access any of my works.

That has nothing to do with registering the serial #. Your issue is with reaching the activation server. The problem is likely either a firewall or Adobe.com in your host file: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/po...

Don't be fooled. "ID’s are everywhere these days and most users already have log-ins for Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, iTunes, etc. which bring a level of security and personalization to an account." The fact is that because everything requires an ID and a password and an email and a...and a...and a...means that people get sick and tired of keeping track of 4942 different passwords and ID's and use the same ones everywhere. This brings a level of vulnerability, not security. In addition, you are transmitting and storing those IDs and passwords all over God's creation to maximize the potential for theft. The only real reason they all want you to do this is that it's one more way to harvest your personal information, use it for marketing, and hoping that you forget to opt out so they can spam you with marketing emails.

I have a licensed copy of Photoshop/Premiere Elements 13, yet every time I launch it I have to re-register, and then enter my serial number again. Par for the course. I'm not even going to bother trying to get my money back; it will never happen. I just won't be using Adobe anything any more.

I totally agree. Adobe Photoshop is just not worth it when I have to subscribe on a monthly basis. This whole thing about registration is super idiocy as well. There is a great chance for someone to hack in and get those logins and passwords. I'd say it's more in the interest of the vendor than in my own interest to keep my registration safe. The safest registration is where I get to buy the software and get a serial key. I install the software and activate it with that serial key.
