Lightroom: Stacking Options Removed from Export dialog in 4.2

I just posted this over at the Lightroom forum thinking it might be me, but have now confirmed that when exporting an image and choosing to add it back to the catalog, that the option to stack it with the original and choose whether it be placed above or below the original is no longer available in the export dialog.

After watching Jared Platt's creativelive course, I started creating my PSD's by exporting them in bulk, adding them back into the catalog and stacking them on top of the original raw files. After updating to LR 4.2 I don't see the option in the export dialog any more, but confirmed that they were there in 4.1.

Hi Jason,

The option still appears in my Export dialog, so I'm not sure what is happening in your case. Could you post a screengrab of your export dialog?

A few other questions:
1. Which OS version are you running?
2. How many files do you have selected for export?
3. It sounds like you are exporting RAW files to PSD format - can you confirm?

Thanks,
Becky

Becky,

Thanks for replying. to answer your questions:
1. I'm on a MBP running OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) and LR4.2
2. I've tried single images and multiples
3. I first tested exporting 16-bit Prophoto PSD's but have also tried just jpegs

Becky,

I just got back to the studio and checked my other mac running LR, and this appears to be an issue with the 4.2 update. My iMac running OSX 10.8.2 has the otpions in LR4.1. I'm hesitant to update it, but would be willing to try it if you think would help figure out what's going on.

Hi Jason,

I was able to see the same bug here, using the following steps. Can you confirm that this is also your workflow?

1. Select an image in Library, export as PSD using your settings (Add to catalog and Add to Stack both checked).
2. After export, in Lightroom, select the "Added by Previous Export" folder in the Catalog panel.
3. Select the PSD and go to Export.

Note, if I select All Photographs or the folder containing the image in step 2, I see the Add to Stack checkbox. It only disappears when "Added by Previous Export" is selected.

I also tested these steps in previous versions of Lightroom, and confirmed it is not new in 4.2.

Becky,

Well not exactly. Here's how I usually do it:

1. select a few images in a folder in the Library (in grid view) that I know will need to go to photoshop for retouching/editing
2. Export using the settings you described (export as psd, add to catalog, add to top of stack) and let the export job run
3. Without leaving the folder I was in, I hit "S" to collapse the stack
4. reselect the psd's (that are now above the raws in the stacks) and hit cmd+E to edit in photoshop
5. Select edit originals and start working in photoshop

Does that make sense? It's basically just a way of creating the PSD's that I know I'll need in bulk as opposed to one at a time, and by using that export job workflow, I can be working on something else while LR prepares my photoshop documents for me.

Becky,

Any other thoughts on this issue? Is it a bug, or was it removed from LR in 4.2? Or is it an issue with 4.2 when running on Mountain Lion?

Thanks,

Jason

Still trying to confirm if this is a bug, or if the stacking options were removed in 4.2 on purpose.

Please help!
