Spot color problem with Photoshop CS6/CC 2018 in my Kodak Prinergy workflow

Hello there,

We have been through a very specific issue, hope I can get some help here as Kodak does not seem able to help me more :(

We use offset printing and sometimes work with 5-color TIFF but so far, we have been using Photoshop CS3 which has been working pretty well with our Kodak Prinergy workflow when the latter "refines" the TIFF into a normalized PDF (first step of the workflow).

Today, we would like to stop using CS3, we are using Photoshop CS6 and CC 2018 for our CMYK TIFF, there's no issue. But when we use those recent versions for the 5-color TIFF, the Kodak workflow won't be able to refine it. An error occurs, saying that "Photoshop image resources define one alpha channel but DisplayInfo for only zero alpha channel". A message that still sounds vague to me, a Kodak technician told me that in recent Photoshop versions, it seems like Photoshop saves an alpha channel in addition to the spot color layer and that the workflow is not able to deal with it.

He adviced me to try and avoid the saving of this alpha channel, with Pitstop or Photoshop but I don't know if this problem comes from our method or from Photoshop, as it works very well in CS3. How could we possibly deal with it ?

Thank you so much in advance,
Amelie.

Maybe instead of a tiff with an alpha channel, look into saving as Photoshop DCS 2.0? This is a type of EPS file that is specifically for multichannel images.
