Photoshop: Spontaneously disappearing text layers

I often make multiple copies of a text layer and only change the font so I can decide which font I want to go with, but when I go to make changes (move, resize, etc.) to one of these layers they all disappear except for the original and the active layer. Then I have to undo (which restores the missing layers) and try again and hope that they don't all disappear. Usually after one or two rounds of disappearances it settles down. This has been going on for several years at least.

Howdy Gina,

Please assume that this post begins with stunned silence and a look of incredulity.  Hey, trying to set the stage and text doesn't convey that...anyway...

Yeah, Photoshop absolutely should NOT be behaving as you're describing.  I'm curious about your process -- and, quite frankly, I think I can show you a much better way to do what you're trying to.  Can we set up a web-hosted screenshare so you can demo this problem for me?  All you need is an internet connection, speakers and microphone, plus a camera is nice, but not required.  Just respond to this posting and we can go from there.

Thanks,
David
