It should be amazing if we could have to more features for the color swatches.
  1. The possibility to switch between colors with two key (one for going to the next color and one for going to the previous one).
  2. The possibility to create color ramp between two colors. For example if i select a color and another one four position far from the first one i could create a color ramp in four steps. If i choose a color ten position far from the first one the color ramp will be done in ten steps.
those two improvements could be very useful for all the pixel artists to manage their color palette with a hudge precision and be more efficient in creating pixelarts faster.

I'm very interested by proposition 1 as it makes me think about Illustrator's shape builder's swatches behaviour.

What I'm more curious about is how you'd get that color ramp, could you make a small mock up like state before, step after ? Couldn't that be a panel or an extension ?

Yes it could be an extension or a panel. Here is the idea. In my exemple there are three steps between the selected colors but it could be four or ten or thirty if you want. All the colors between will be automatically generated. Of course to do that you should be able to copy / paste / cut the swatches as you like to manipulate your color palette
