Lightroom Classic: Solution to lost image on round trip from Lightroom->Photoshop->Lightroom

I found over 40 posts with the general title, photo lost from round trip between Lightroom and Photoshop. I've posted in a few of these that the solution is:
  1. shutdown Lightroom
  2. restart Lightroom
wait wait wait, seems to be fixing the catalog
  3. this always works for me
  4. got to be a better way while we are waiting for Adobe to fix this bug
This works but it is not easier. Though if Lightroom is slow to shutdown and restart on your computer, this might be faster. After returning to Lightroom:

  - the keyword will show the photo has been added, example
    - keyword will show 39 photos
    - bottom of library window will show 38 of nnnnn photos
  - but it will not display
    - bouncing between keywords, windows, etc has no effect, still missing
  - backslash to search
    - choose the highest level folder containing this image
  - Text Search
    - Filename of missing image, perhaps from a File Explorer window
    - enter filename from folder containing the file, same as original files
      - that single file will now be displayed
    - add a random keyword
    - remove correct keyword
    - remove random keyword
    - add correct keyword
  - click on correct keyword, arrow on the right side
  - image now in display with the others

BUT, Adobe please fix this. Focus stacking is slow enough without having to deal with this.

A few additional solutions from other customers' experiences but not listed above:
  1. Change the sort criteria/order to make the image appear next to its source
  2. Reset filters to make image appear where it should (most common File Type filters)
  3. If in a Smart Collection when sending the file, verify the return file meets the criteria of the Smart Collection. If it doesn't it won't appear next to the original
  4. Check to see if Stacks are in play.
Any of these could cause the image to not appear where expected.

OK Rikk,

What did you do to my computer? After dealing with this problem for months, today it went away. It was still there yesterday. Was there a secret update to Lightroom last night. I certainly didn't change anything, even stacking the same images.

Thanks,
Bill

There are no secret updates.
In 13+ years of using Lightroom, Mac and Windows, I've never seen it happen once where it wasn't issue because of one of the reasons I mentioned.

Then magic I guess as I've dealt with this problem for about a year and then overnight it disappears. Whatever the cause, I'm grateful.

1. Doesn't work, tried it several times.
2. Doesn't work, tried it several times.
3. Untested as I don't use collections.
4. Doesn't work, tried it several times.

Perhaps these are suggestions from years ago but they don't work with V9.1 or 9.2.

They work with 9.1 and 9.2.

Maybe ask in the help forum and describe specific steps?  https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic/bd-p/lightroom-classic

Windows and Mac. Ask in the Help forum and describe the exact steps rather than the jumble of stuff about keywords.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Returning to LR from PS, image does not appear in LR. Requires restart of LR. Awk....

With in image in LR, selecting 'edit in PS' the transfer to PS works fine. On closing and saving in PS, however, the image does not appear in LR. I have to restart LR to see the image. This is awkward and time consuming. Worse, this is an intermittent problem. For long periods this condition will hold, then it will stop for a while and everything will work fine. Then back again.
