When I work with hard edge artwork, often times I have to use Median in order to smooth out poorly enlarged/reduced edges. Due to the lack of options in the Median filter, corners that are meant to be there gets rounded out along with the rough areas.

I'd like to see additional options akin to Illustrator auto trace options where you're able to dictate the properties of the filter. Such as minimum pixel size edge tightness and so on.

It cuts into the artwork too much. It has to preserve the artwork thickness, particularly linework.

This is mostly due to enlarging a hard edged graphic, the edge pixels scales linearly making any curves quite jagged. If the edge pixels scaled up in a normalized manner in relation to the original edge shape/direction, it may reduce the issue also.
