Smart previews file stays the same size no matter how many smart previews I delete?

Up untill now i had quite a lot of smart previews, around 25 000, so i decided to delete most of them. Before i started deleting the smart previews "Lightroom Catalog-2 Smart Previews.lrdata" was 17.12 gb. Now i have around 9000 Smart Previews only. The file is the exact same size. I optimised the catalog. I came across other threads with people asking why the size of the file stays the same. But did't find a solution other than deleting the file and generating the smart previews again.

Thanks in Advance!

You do not say which operating system you use, but because you call this a 'file', I assume that you are using MacOS. The 'smart previews.lrdata' is a so-called 'package', which is a folder disguised as a file (on Windows it is a normal folder). The Mac Finder can be confused if contents is removed from a package without the Finder knowing it, and so the size it reports is not correct. The package did shrink. I would think that a restart of the computer should update the Finder info to show the correct size.

Yes, I am using a mac. The restart did not help. It's still labeled as 17.12 Gb. But inside LR - catalog settings - file handling the smart previews size is 7 GB, so maybe it's not a problem at all that it's displayed as 17,12GB as you say, but in reality it's less.

If you right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the package, you’ll get a menu with ‘Show Package Contents’. The package will open as a folder. Maybe that draws a recalculation by the Finder, and lets the Finder show the real size.
