I'm using cs6. Everytime I drag an image in or go to edit, the add an image, it always automatically converts to a smart object. I have no idea how to fix this and I would really like some help with this. It's wery frustrating.

How are you adding the image?
Yes, if you drag in an image it is the same as placing, which defaults to creating a smart object.

Place is in the File menu, not edit.  Are you talking about Edit -> Paste?

Place is supposed to create a smart object.
Paste gives you options, depending on what you pasted.
And dragging files into another document is just like place.

But you can turn off "Always create Smart Object when placing" in Photoshop's preferences.

If you don't see the button for that, I can take care of it.
