Photoshop: Smart object not updating opacity

When I'm using smart objects in photoshop the decreased opacity is not shown correctly from the linked object. It's being showed as 100% in the document.

Doesn't work with fill either.

What do you mean "from the linked object"?

You change the opacity on the smart object layer, or inside the child file.

Well, I have two files.

File 1 = Head document (mockup of website) (mockup.psd)
File 2 = Navbar - smart object which is linked to in File 1 (nav.psb)

In File 2, the opacity of the text is set to 85%.

When I use the smart object (navbar) from file 2 in File 1, the text is shown as 100%.

The opacity is not being transferred from File 2 to File 1.

Since I have other elements in File 2, I don't want to change the opacity of the smart object when using it in File 1.

That's odd, because the smart object would reproduce it's merged appearance in the parent document.
If you saved the child document (File 2 in your example), then the parent document (File 1) would have to show exactly the bits saved in the child document.

My guess is you forgot to save, or you placed and edited different versions (ie: not editing the file you think you are).

Yeah, that's what I thought too, but everything else is updated when saving.. i.e. text and color. It's just the fill and opacity that's not being updated correctly.

When opening upp File 2, opacity is first shown as 100% and when clicking on the text with type tool, photoshop thinks "oh snap, I should display 85%" and then after it updates in File 2. But still shows wrong in File 1.

I'm using the smart object in several files and it's the same problem.

Look at this for an example :)

First text is being linked from File 2 to File 1.

Second text is typed directly in File 1 (the correct way opacity should be displayed)

So.. When i'm using a .psb file in another document, the opacity and fill is not showed correctly.

The way I did this =

Created a content I wanted to use in multiple documents. Converted as smart object, converted to linked object. Saved.

Something odd is going on here -- can you email a copy of the files to ccox (at) adobe (DOT) com?
