Do you mean »remove all Transformations« or »revert to some prior state« of the SO’s contents?

In general that is not possible due to different color modes, profiles, resolutions, transforms, filters, etc.

What might be possible is a very limited "try to unpack the SO contents into this document as best as possible". It would still fail in some cases (due to incompatible contents) - but in the simple case (SO made from the parent document) it should be fine.

Let me clarify my problem and the suggested solution further. When you create a smart object and use this on several other canvases and later on need to edit the SO, as per the current process, it opens the editable SO on a new canvas. When this happens it is sometimes difficult to compare and match colors and scale the object according to the layout. What I'm suggesting is an option on the SO menu to edit the SO on the active canvas and apply the change to the other canvases directly.

That's even less possible than what I suggested earlier, and doesn't match your original description at all.
