Hi Sean,

Probably because Lightroom is redrawing the grid view constantly during the move. Once you initiate the move, select some folder that's not currently having photos moved from it or to it, and you'll probably see a speed-up.

Let us know if Ben's suggestion has any improvement. What you're seeing seems excessive, so we may need additional information so we can repro/track down.

Jeffrey,

I use Ben's method all the time. The time differential described by Sean above seems excessive, but I can vouch that it does take many, many times longer if you don't switch to another folder.

If the Recycle Bin has an excessive number of files, that too seems to still have an effect on file movements within LR. Sean might want to see if he has a few thousand files there that need to be removed.

Ben,

Is there an underlying reason for the constant redraw? LR knows which images are going to be moved (they were selected) and thus is seems like there should only be one redraw? Might be worth a bug report or at least a performance enhancement suggestion???

Thanks!

Jeff

Ha. Thanks, Sean. We thought was a curious number. It would be good to have a base-line number as well as system info for internal regression.

Quick test:
1:58 for 100 file move, no folder change
0:59 for 100 file move, folder change

I'm using a 2010 Mac Pro, 6-core, 16GB ram, 1.5TB RAID 0 two disk array

Also using a 30" monitor in Full screen mode 2 (dock visible), library module, grid view, navigator open, filimstrip open, toolbar open, right panel closed.

Grid-view thumbnail size at 5th tick from the left. Sorry guys for the choppy replies. Hope you aren't getting blasted by emails.

0:33 for 100 file move external to LR, relocate in LR to complete move (most of that time is moving the mouse)
