Elements 9: Unable to use scroll bars on Win 7

Win7, PSE9

Trying to scroll the photo side-to-side and up-and-down with the sliders. One should be able to click the slider in the marked center and drag it around. Or one should be able to click the up/down or right/left arrows at the ends of the slider tray. Either of these actions is supposed to move the slider and the photo. Neither does. Spacebar/click/drag works. Clicking in the tray works. But ya' know, sometimes I like to employ features that work in each and every single other program I have ever used, including PS CS (which simply does not activate on Win7, so I'm stuck f'g around with this piece of crap cheapER update)

This is, like, the fifth problem I've submitted, maybe sixth. I've gotten one response on one issue, being that my Caps Lock key was engaged. Does anyone actually read these? Or are the cute emoticons just to let me vent so I "feel better"?? Why isn't there an "Angry" option? 'cuz I am. It's way beyond "frustrated"!

Why oh why should I buy this thing that doesn't work as advertised? Or like anything else I have works?

I find that the scroll bars and buttons work just fine on my Windows 7 in PSE9. I assume that you are zoomed in close enough to the image so that it is taking up an area larger that the work space and thus the scroll bars are required to see the entire image and are usable. Just like looking at a Word document or Web page that entirely fits in the current view, the scroll bars are inactive in Elements if your image is at a zoom percentage small enough so that the image fits with the work area.

Are you using a Wacom tablet? If so, please install the 9.0.3 update which fixes issues with the tablet interacting with features of the UI.

Does the scroll wheel on your mouse work to move the image up an down (assuming you do not have the Zoom with Scroll Wheel preference option enabled)?

Do the arrow keys work (assuming you are not currently using the Move tool)?

Yes, people do read these posts. But there are a lot of them, and it takes time for someone to respond in an intelligent fashion with an answer that will help. Please have some patience, this isn't a chat room, so it is not unreasonable to wait a day or more for a reply.

The little emoticons are a creation of GetSatisfaction, the company that hosts this forum. If you have suggestions on change, you can supply them on their home page, they are very responsive to improvement suggestions. Also, your status can be anything you can imagine and type. You are not limited to the choices it gives you when you choose a face. I've seen some pretty creative uses for the emotion (one of my favorites was "I'm a sad panda").

Thank you for the response, Brett.

No Wacom tablet.
Yes the scroll wheel scrolls the image.
Yes the arrow keys move the image, L,R,U,D.
Dragging scroll bars does not work, nor does clicking the L,R,U,D arrows.

I've waited over a week with no response to a few other issues. I realize it's not a chat room and I don't expect immediate feedback. I DO expect a non-cheap product to have a UI (which LOOKS like any other UI) that works and functions like anyone would expect it to.

I have a fair amount of experience with PS CS and the UI works fine there. I noticed right away that PSE9 UI looks very different in many ways, even though the functionality - what it actually DOES - is identical. I think the flashy look (is it Air?) with its lacking usability is just useless. I'd rather have vanilla WinXP look and have it work correctly.

Again, this works fine on my side, so it's not simply an issue of the program lacking this capability. We just have to figure out what is different between my system and yours.

What sort of input device are you using? (Mouse/Trackball, USB/PS2/Wireless)
Do you have the latest manufacturer drivers installed?
Any third-party applications running in the background/foreground?

Perhaps you can just provide a system report (In Elements, Help>System Info).

Sorry for a delayed response.

The first thing I notice is that your video card appears to be very out of date. The version listed here is 8.850.0.0. According to the ATI web site, the current version is 11.8. I would definitely start with getting that updated:

Well, thank you for discovering that my video driver (which I updated only a few months ago, I thought) was out of date. I have updated it along with its own very buggy configuration manager.

Now I'm not sure how my video driver would cause a piece of software (only one... PSE) to not work, but I don't guess I'll ever know if that fixed it or not because my trial has expired in the intervening TWO WEEKS since I provided you that tome of information about my system config. There's no way on earth that I'm going to pay that kind of money for something that is so riddled with bugs. I've reported several others, too, but no word on them.

Meantime, I tried reinstalling PS CS (v8) back onto my old XP machine. Guess what? It says "Trial expired" with no option to enter my serno.

Can you give me one good reason why I should do business with Adobe? One good reason, that's all I ask.

And it can't be that my very very very old version of PS Elements v2 works just fine on Win7. It registers, it activates, it works pretty damn well. And I think it might have been free, way back in the day...

Has anyone considered the issue may be the swapping of the left and right mouse buttons? I have had issues with my scroll bars not working. At least I see them. I decided to switch my mouse buttons back (for a right-handed person) and the scroll bars work now.
