Lightroom Classic: Sending photos by email on a Mac

I can use the File/Email Photo in Lightroom Classic (CC) to select a photo, add a recipient and some text. When I click SEND, Apple Mail comes up and I can confirm or amend my original text and then Send the email. This works on both my laptop and my desktop.
My friend who is also using a MAC and Lightroom Classic (CC) can go through the same Lightroom steps but the Apple Mail Client never comes up for him to complete the Send process.
In both cases Apple Mail is showing in the From Field.
If we put his gmail credentials in the Email Account Manager still nothing gets sent.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Tom

Google is the culprit. You need to dumb down gmail. Here's a link to the switch: https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps

Is he on Mojave? If so, go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy tab and scroll down to Automation on the left and put a checkmark next to Mail. I've seen a few people who accidentally refused permission for Lightroom to access Mail.

We were able to work with the laptop today, Mojave was installed and changing the Privacy setting fixed it up. Thanks Victoria for the solution and Tony for your suggestion as well.
