Selection process going haywire in grid view in Lightroom 5.5 Mac

Double clicking on one photo now somehow selects two. Single clicking on a photo does not de-select all other photos. Sometimes photos get selected without even being clicked on. Sometimes I attempt to select a consecutive group and some photos get left out of the selection.

This behavior is completely new and frustrating to try and work with.

Quitting and relaunching does not fix this problem. Nor does restarting the computer.

Okay, now it's getting worse. When I can manage to select a single photo in grid view then hit "D" to develop, it pulls up a different photo than the one selected. What the heck is going on, here??!!!

Thanks for that! Deleting the pref file has helped quite a bit if not fixed the problem entirely.

My LR5 was becoming almost unworkable. Now I can at least manage. It is still making the occasional random selection and not quite behaving normally. (When I single-click on a new frame, the previous selection usually does not clear entirely.)

I have re-installed a fresh download of 5.5 and run MacKeeper. I have also tried shutting off the BlueTooth keyboard and/or tackpad (using just the original mouse) and the issue persists.
