Photoshop: Selecting all layers inside a group should also select the group

You have mainly two behaviour of the select tool:

AUTOSELECT Layers
AUTOSELECT groups

when you working on web mockups that can contain multiple nested groups it's easyer to set autoselect to Layers, but:

What happens if you select all elements inside many groups? You need to select manually the groups in wich these layers are contained if you want to preserve the correct position of the masks applied to the groups.

Why you not put an option in the selection tool options that allow this behaviour "if all layers inside a group get selected, also the group in wich are contained get selected"

excuse me for my bad english

It would have to be optional, because selecting the contents is not the same as selecting the container. (for instance: I can drink a can of soda without drinking the can)

yes of course i said "an option in the selection tool" now is

LAYERS
GROUPS

it would be

LAYERS and GROUPS

i dont know if is a wide common problem, but when you have a website mockup for example and u need to move some boxes made by multiple layers, the easy way is to command click and drag a selection but:

if you have autoselect set on Groups PS select only the main groups of the hierarchy, that often are the main groups of a section or a page

if you have autoselect set on Layers PS select all the correct layers , but if you have some groups that contain masks you need to select one by one in the layer panel if you not want to loose the mask position when moving layers

i guess is a lack, but maybe i'm wrong, speaking with many collegues i see that many people wish in that options...

this is an example image showing all layers selected inside a group

in files that contain many many nested groups and layers this feature can be really timesaver

and also what would be the disvantage of that feature? if i selected all layers inside a group to move it, the behaviour would be the same of selecting and moving the group itself, so there is no changement for that behaviour

Maybe i've a masked group and i want to move only the object inside , OK in this case i'll deselect the group it from the layer panel.

But how many people need to move only all object inside many masked group without moving also the groups?

Again, it is a change in behavior, and could easily lead to mistakes if someone forgets the state of the setting.
