PHOTOSHOP - Selecting file types in the save dialog could be streamlined

Selecting the file type when saving a file is awkward: I have to select the file type from the long dropdown. I often have to do this a lot, eg. if I'm saving several files out of a styled document to .PNG, since Photoshop keeps defaulting to PSD.

This could be streamlined by automatically selecting a file type if the entered filename has a known file extension. That way, if I type "file.png", or paste in a path with ".jpg" at the end (which I do a lot, by copying paths in Explorer), it would select that file type automatically. If I do this today without explicitly changing the type, I end up with a file extension of PNG but with PSD contents, which I've done by accident a few times.

Users who don't enter extensions at all and let Photoshop add them would be unaffected.

It might be useful to only change the file type selection if the typed extension actually changes, eg. so changing "hello.jpg" to "hello.png" updates the file type, but changing "hello.jpg" to "hello2.jpg" doesn't. (I'm not sure if this logic is needed.)
