Attempting to use the Select Subject feature causes a hard shutdown on my machine.

I have tried disabling Advanced GPU, resetting preferences, reinstalling MacOS/CC and still have the same issue.

I am running MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4095 MB

Thanks for any help.

Quote from Mr.Cox in 2015:
If the entire machine is freezing (requiring a reset or power cycle), shutting down, or rebooting - then you are looking at a bug in the OS, a bug in a low level driver, or defective hardware.  Applications cannot cause those behaviors on modern OSes.
The most common causes we've seen are: defective RAM, defective motherboards, defective hard drives, defective GPUs or VRAM, and bugs in some low level drivers (USB, video, and SATA mostly).
This may not be any comfort as it does not provide an immediate solution to the problem, but it means the problem is not actually with Photoshop.

Thanks for your input. In that case if I had to guess I'd say it's the Nvidia web drivers that are causing the issue. Are there any apps you'd recommend to test the hardware?

Howdy Christian,

Your best bet is to reach out to Nvidia for an update.  I'm sure other people use the same card, so the company will need a solution.

Sorry,
David

p.s. -- I think Chris would be tickled to know he was quoted from four years ago...8-)

Apple provides video drivers on MacOS. Nvidia wouldn't have their own (one big advantage of using a Mac.)

Well, as far as I know his statement still applies.
Has anybody made a more comprehensive statement on this issue since or do you know whether there is a helpx-page for this I missed?

Mr.Cox’ posts could seem somewhat curt at times but I considered it a considerable courtesy on his part to try and help people on the fora when he could just as well have been watching cat-videos or whatever.

Oh, I agree with you and with him.  I just think it's cool how his comments "live on."  I actually shared this with Chris via Facebook last night.  I think it made him happy.

Have a great day,
David
