Select All Instances option for Smart Objects. Pretty self explanatory and why it would be beneficial, exactly the same as Illustrator.

If there already is one then I apologize, I haven't been able to find a way to do so.

yes by type, not instances. I work with smart objects in my patterns as much as possible to keep it dynamic and nondestructive. it is very cumbersome to have to go through a list of layers and manually select the instances of one specific object. This would be a workflow improvement, to be as efficient as possible. it is already available in illustrator, why not photoshop.

if I name them yea, but I rarely get a chance to when it's crunch time. not to mention files from other artists etc. the filters are clearly there to make the layers panel more usable when many layers and objects are involved, so why not complete that package with Select All Instances.

Group the layers containing the object instance you are interested in?

if they can be in the same plane yes, but more often than not they have to be in different planes of the pattern over/under others. this is especially true in a repeating pattern. the best solution is actually to link them, but that is why I'm suggesting the feature. After creating and positioning the instances of an object in a placement that I think will look good, I'll go back through the layers to manually select them in order to link them together. That way any future placement adjustments can be made efficiently. now when you're dealing with possibly hundreds of layers like I am, this gets tedious and time consuming.

the other way this can be achieved is if Smart Objects can be edited inline of the document instead of a separate file. Much like how Illustrator isolation mode works. This way you could move the instance's placement without having to make an excessively large object document of empty space just to shift things around. this is actually another feature I was hoping the team could implement as it would greatly improve workflow, also.
