ELEMENTS 13 - Scanned images not always showing thumbnail when imported

I'm not seeing the image when I import a photo using PSE13 into my Organizer from my photos that I've scanned and saved as jpegs. This doesn't happen with every image, but often enough to be aggravating. What I get in the Organizer looks like a gray sheet of paper that is ripped diagonally. The image has all the tags and captions that I've attached to it and I can open the image in Editor and it opens fine. Just can't see the "thumbnail".
So what am I doing wrong?

What happens when you try to 'Update thumbnail' with the right click contextual menu?
what are the pixel dimensions of your scans?

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back; been busy with the Thanksgiving Holiday.

When I'm in the Organizer and right click on thumbnail a menu appears, but "Update thumbnail" is not one of the options.

The dimensions of the scan that is not showing a thumbnail (but shows as a gray ripped page) is 10214 pixels x 13604 pixels with a resolution of 1200 pixels/inch. When I do the actual scan, my scanning software is set to 300 ppi (my equipment can't handle anything higher). So not sure how it's going from 300 ppi to 1200 ppi.

So seems to be well within the limits that I read in the link you posted above.

TIA
