Photoshop: Saving process hangs if changing layer effects or settings

When saving a large image the saving process hangs if you change some layer settings while it is working. Like for instance the color of a fill layer, or some of the layer effects.

You are pointing at your old plug-ins folder using the Additional plug-ins preference. This can cause major instability of the application. Turn that off, restart Photoshop.
