My "save as" function is not working on my CS5. So I can't save my image as a JPEG. Is there any help you can give me? I tried looking online for solutions, but they don't help if I don't have any options..

When you Save As isn't working, does it give an error when you try and save your image as a JPEG? Or is the problem that JPEG is not an option in the "Format" pop-up in the Save As dialog?

What are mode, depth, ... of the file?

Have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, font validation, etc.)?

If it's the later, your file may be in Bitmap or LAB color mode, or 32bit bit mode.

Can you look at what the settings are in the Image>Mode> menu and let us know what color mode and bit depth the image is in?

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels/dialogs visible?
Does the image have features that preclude savings as a jpg and which version of Photoshop do you use?

Boilerplate-text:
Other than that are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, font validation, etc.)?

Got the same error. No option for the saving the file as JPEG, nothing happens when pressing Save As.
Tried to uninstall/reinstall cs5, same thing. OS: windows 7, 64bit.
There is no option that says JPEG on the file format, only .pdf., .tiff., .pbs.. can't remember the exact file extensions.
CS3 works fine on the same computers

Please read the previous responses. Check the bit depth of your image - it's probably set to 16 or 32 bit/channel while JPEG only supports 8 bits/channel.

would it matter though that the file that I opened is already on JPEG, edited it then tried to save the file?

You might have changed the bit depth, but you might have added layers and only be shown file formats that support layers (and JPEG doesn't support layers, transparency, or many other things).

I am new to this so I am not technical.
I checked the bit depth just like how you suggested and it was on 8bit and what I was just trying to do was use the color range feature.

That looks right. Strange. What happens if you create a new document and try to save it as a JPEG file?

Also, what happens if you try and do File>Save For Web and save the file as a JPEG?
