How do I save a PSD file for a website, with transparency?

I have a logo saved as a photoshop psd file with no background. I want to upload this to my website (with no background). Do I have to convert to another file? How do I do this? Please help.

Web browsers don't understand the PSD format.

Of file formats that web clients do understand: GIF can support some limited transparency (one indexed color can be completely transparent), and PNG supports full transparency (much like PSD).

The best way to save it for the web is using SaveForWeb, select PNG-24 as the file format, allow transparency, and set the other options as needed.

Don't forget to keep the layered PSD file in case you need to change the image later (and resave it as PNG).
