Whenever I try to "Save as" my documents as an PNG or whatever, It automatically sets it as .PSD or vice versa, It a really big issue since you need to rename your file format other wise I am able to wrongly save my PSD file as an PNG which will be broken and lost afterwards.

Really really annoying, where is your User Experience ??

Save As lets you save RGB, indexed color, grayscale, or bitmap images in PNG format.
Is your image in CMYK?
Yes? -> Convert to RGB.

Are you on Catalina? Have you installed the Photoshop 20.0.7 or 21.0 updates?

I have just 24 April 2020 downloaded the free trial and cannot save as png. I have tried save as, export, export preferences done, I CAN bring the file into PS and it shows as png, BUT I need to send the png to a client asap. Otherwise will have to cancel free trial and go back to CS6
