Lightroom Classic: Saving as a series

Numbers don't add up when saving as a series, after choosing a start number greater than 1, it keeps trying to save my files with a non-consecutive number and the SW gives the feedback that the filename already exists.

Not sure what you mean by "saving as a series".  Are you possibly running into problems while trying to rename on export?  If so, can you share a screen capture of your export settings & file naming template?

Hi Tom, you are correct. I used to export files using the same number as the original file, but I use two cameras now and I need the pictures to remain in the right order.
So when I export the files now, I want to use consecutive numbers.

sadly, uploading a screenshot failed. It's 327 kB, so not too large

Sounds like you mean you are renaming the images with a sequence number in the name. Please note that you can use different sources, one of them is the import number. The import number is the number of the import action however, not the imported image. That means it is the same for the entire import (and gets increased by one in the next import), so you can’t use that as a sequence number for images.

Hi Johan, thanks for responding. But I'm afraid I haven't got a clue what you mean.
You are correct that I want to rename the files with a sequence number when I save them.
I don't see where the import number is showing in the popup. I only now the number of the original file.

Note that I export 1 file at the time and expect that the SW is smart enough to add a number every next time I do an export. So probably that is where I'm mistaken, it probably only works when I export multiple images.

Yep, there's your answer.  The software will not auto-increment on subsequent exports.

If I export 2 images with a file naming template of ABC-<sequence>.jpg with starting number set to 10, the exported files will be named ABC-10.jpg & ABC-11.jpg.  If I select 2 different files and repeat the export without changing the starting number, Lr will try to name them the exact same way.  It will not automatically change the starting number to 12.

Instead of a technical issue, it's now sounding like you've got a process issue.  Can you explain a little more about what you're trying to accomplish and why you're exporting and renaming one at a time?

Indeed, it's seems not to be an issue with the software. It is working now.

Reason why I export only one image at the time, is because I photograph sports events and shoot a lot of pictures, while I only publish the good ones.
I find it easier to adjust and immediately export the good pictures instead of selecting them in from small images and export them in one go.
But now that I have two cameras, I will need to select multiple images after reviewing them. What I do like about the software that the import with images of two different sources are nicely set in the right order. Just make sure that the time is set correctly in both cameras.

Thank you for responding!
