What version of Bridge are you using?

Do you have Bridge set to write metadata into the file, or keep it in the Bridge database?
Do you have Photoshop set to open JPEG files with ACR?

- I don't know. I did not change any settings from the previous version. Where do i find the settings for how Bridge works with metadata?

But I haven't been able to reproduce the problem.

Where is the option to write metadata into files vs the Bridge database? I'm not seeing that setting.

When I save any labelled or rated image files, the ratings an/or labels are instantly removed. Please, let me know if there is a work around or a fix, as I use labels and ratings all the time.

So there is some other, non-default factor involved on your systems that show this issue. But other than Bridge not writing out metadata, or opening files in ACR, I don't know what that factor might be.

I just cross checked the metadata or the original against the new saved file and found it interesting that part of my contact IPTC data is stripped as well, and the date format is changed. Along with the removing of the label and rating info.
See the following image:

1. Edit the metadata in Bridge. (Note the status in the lower left corner of the Bridge window. It will indicate when Bridge is busy writing those edits; wait until Bridge is done.)
2. Open the image in Photoshop. (By the way, is the file opening through the Camera Raw dialog in this case?)
3. While open in Ps, but before saving, open File Info in Ps to see if your metadata shows up there.
4. Now save the image.
This may help determine where the metadata goes missing--when Bridge writes it (or not?), when Ps opens the file, or when Ps saves the file.

However, going the other way, if I gave the image 5 stars in the PS file info dialogue box, and saved it in PS, the file info in Bridge would show the 5 stars.(and the thumbnail would change accordingly)
There seems to be a one-way disconnect here. Any ideas?

The issue is a disconnect between Bridge and Photoshop and being able to read the metadata between the two of them as in my post just above. I have made sure that both programs are up to date, but to no avail.I sure hope this issue can be replicated soon, as my workflow relies heavily on ratings and labels.

1. Setting a label and rating to a jpeg in Bridge (6.0.1.6 x64). Viewing the file info in Bridge I see (among many others):
5
Approved
2. Open the image via double click in PS 2015.1 (Win7/64bit) I see none of the Rating or label XML-Tags in the File Info there.
3. Saving the JPEG (same or other name) from PS results in the lost of label and rating in Bridge.
There seems also to be a difference between the Adobe XMP Core Versions:
While Bridge shows in the FileInfo a
"Adobe XMP Core 5.5-c014 79.151805, 2013/04/09-12:08:21"
Photoshop shows
""Adobe XMP Core 5.6-c067 79.157747, 2015/03/30-23:40:42"
Edit:
Using PNGs the labels and ratings are preserved after open/save the PNG in PS.
Open a JPEG with labels/ratings in PS and saving it as PNG deletes the information.

In between steps 1 and 2, can you leave Bridge check in the Windows explorer if the file modification date "Date modified" of the file has actually changed?
Does it matter where the JPGs are stored in your filesystem? What if you use a JPEG that's just sitting on your desktop.
Thanks,
David

the modification date changed to now, the time I set label and rating.
Doesn't seem to matter, where the file is located.
Problem occurs on Desktop, second internal drive, external hdd ... all NTFS formatted.

Can anyone see the rating metadata (three stars) in Photoshop?

Also, please try changing your Camera Raw Preferences (Edit menu > Preferences > Camera Raw...) so that JPEG Handling is set to "Automatically Open all Supported JPEGs). Then try opening the image again in Photoshop--does that make a difference?
Thanks

I'm glad the workaround of opening JPEGs through the Camera Raw dialog is working for you for now.

Windows 7SP1 64-bit, fully up-to-date, and CC fully up-to-date. Changing the checkboxes in Bridge Preferences->Metadata makes no difference.
Apparently, Photoshop is not properly parsing the line on open? The rating IS saved, as it still appears in Bridge after Save and close.
Bridge doesn't appear to be involved, as the issue still happens if Bridge is not running.

My company is on Windows 7. Not about to upgrade to a newer OS.
I'm doing product photography, shooting tethered in RAW and processing via Bridge/Photoshop. I use Save For Web/Image Processor/Processor Pro numerous times every day because I need multiple sized JPEGs as output. I also have numerous actions and scripts in my workflow.
As it is, I have to reapply our company-standard metadata numerous times in Bridge, by hand.
At home, I have my own photo business where I'm more of an artist and less of an assembly line photo processor. But I'm on a Mac there.
Tell your engineering teams 1. Hope the regression testing goes well and 2. add "saving files without losing data" to their automated test suite. :)

Is there any word on fixing the data loss bug for PS CC on Windows 7?
I do a lot of batch processing and have to re-apply IPTC metadata numerous times in Bridge. This is a major PITA to say the least.
For those who haven't seen it, the current version of Photoshop CC on Windows 7 apparently has a bug when opening files. It doesn't properly read the IPTC XML tags and the result is that metadata, star ratings, and Bridge labels are deleted when the file is saved.
Adobe's suggested workarounds are: Windows 8 (not happening in a corp environment), reinstall the older PS CC (such requests make corp IT cranky) or open files with Camera RAW (not compatible with automated batch processing.)

Photoshop appears to be stripping metadata when saving jpg files. Cf. https://forums.adobe.com/message/7754...
