Elements 12: Save in version set not working (AutoAnalyzer bugs)

That bug has been noted on the user to user forum.
http://forums.adobe.com/message/57665...
The save in version set option does not work for pictures in catalogs converted from earlier version. The edited version is saved with the -edited-1 suffix on the drive, but not included in the organizer.
If you kill the process elementsautoanalyzer.exe, everything is back to normal.
You have to kill the process each time you start a new organizer session.
With pictures in native PSE12 catalogs, no problem.
The fact that the pictures are in albums does not seem to be relevant for me.

I would like to add, that I encounter the problem (i.e. the "Saved-As" edited Version not being cataloged) even when I do ***not*** specify the "Save into Versionset" Option.

New discovery:

I just tested the 'save in version set' process with the same converted catalog (from V11) and with elementsautoanalyzer.exe running.

If the left panel (albums and pictures) is displayed, the 'save in version set' fails. If the left panel is hidden, it works ????

I am not sure to understand what you mean by "left panel (albums and pictures)" .

Is it the left Panel within the Organizer, which shows Albums and Folders? I tried to hide it: but until now it did not work on my PC.

Or do you mean another Panel within the Organizer? Which one?

Or do you mean a left Panel within the Editor? Which one?

I have to correct myself: the Workaround of Michel works also on my PC, if the left Panel (Albums and Folders) of the Organizer ***is already hidden, at the time that I transfer the photos that I will edit from Organizer to Editor*** the photos that I want to edit.

Thanks a lot to Michel for posting this nice work-around.

-----
A small detail: If it is only later (when the photos have already been transfered to the editor), that I hide the left panel of the Organizer, then the work-around does not work

It's the left panel in the Organizer.

Its Strange. Today I was making some few tests with V12. And even when the left Panel of the Organizer (showing Albums and Folders) was hidden, I encountered today again the problem.

I do not know yet what were the differences between yesterday's tests (when I did not encounter the problem) and today's tests (when I encountered the problem).

...Hoping that today I did not oversaw to do something that is needed to avoid the Problem.

I have tried launching the Organizer from a desktop shortcut as an administrator : that works now for me. That also solved a problem with watched folders not working...

Hello Michel

Merci - Thank you. That was a good News.

After reading Your post, I too started the PSE V12 Organizer as an Administrator and did not have anymore the Problem..... But it was just one single test and I will need to wait and see if that "Happy state" will persist (and have good hopes that running the PSE Organizer as Administrator will not result in other Problems).

In my latest tests, I have again the problem (even though, I was running the Organizer as an Admin).

It seems that on my PC the Problem does not happen consistently..... when doing X or Y and the problem then disappears for a couple of tests: I can not assume that X or Y is a functioning work-around.

I will revert to the following work-around that worked consistently for me: I renamed (in ist Windows Folder) the file ElementsAutoAnalyzer.exe to ElementsAutoAnalyzer.exezzz ....as a result, ElementsAutoAnalyzer can not start and can not mess up.

PE12 Editor, Version Set save does not function properly.

Editing photo from PE12 Organizer; more often than not (9 out of 10), when I try to save edited document in a version set, it fails then notifies me that PE12 Organizer has found a new photo in Watched Folders; I answer "Yes"; it saves as a new file and displays the photo as a single entry in PE12 Organizer; I then have to click "Media" to return to the full grid; the original & newly edited photo must now be "Stacked" to emulate a version set. One out of 10 times, its saves properly as a version set. I'd like to see this fixed.

Unable to create a version set.

I purchased and downloaded Elements 12 on 2nd November on o/no AD001845569UK
and when I came to use it on the 3rd Nov for the first time it found updates to install and proceeded to do them. However, they did not complete and only managed to do 98% and then just hung there. I left it overnight but it was still at 98% in the morning and I had to end the task to allow me to use my computer. When I came to use Elements 12 today it first would not open a CR2 file after adjustments in ACR. Eventually I managed to get it working but when I saved the file after editing in the editor it did not save as a version set or show it in the organizer although this is what was requested in the save options. I have tried this on a lot of files but none saved as a version set or was shown in the organizer.
Could you please advise how to rectify this as it is important for me to use the version set option.

Regards
John O' Hagan

I have encountered the same problem as detailed above and have followed
http://barbarabrundage.com/2013/10/31...
to remove the autoanalyze function. So far this has worked fine. Many thanks

I have had so many issues with trying to get PSE12 up and running correctly. The latest is the problem with Editor not saving photos. I've marked for the edited photo to be included in Organizer and as a version set but nothing happens. No error message. I've looked for it by edited name and it is not there. This needs to be resolved. I also converted from a previous version.

Thank you to the folks who have suggested Barbara's fix. I had seen it previously and applied part of it but was wary about making the file name changes like she mentioned as I'm not that proficient with trouble shooting and thought I would mess it up. So, anyway, I did try the complete suggestion and just tried to save but did not get a version set but I didn't restart my computer first. Maybe I need to do that? I will try it now. Also, I thought I read you have to do this every time you open Photoshop. Is that correct?

update: Restarted my computer after following all of Barbara's instructions and....SUCCESS! I have a version set! It still hope Adobe can actually fix the bug because I'm just one of those people that feels after they spend some good money on a product, it should work! Just sayin'...

i just started using 12 after converting my 11 catalog.. I have had the issue with a version set not being saved. The edited picture ended up in my trash bin.

I discovered a very easy work around but will try Barbara's method later this week.

The work around is to use one of the tools in the Instant Fix of the Organizer. After clicking on Contrast or another one of the tools I then click on Editor in the tool bar and move on to editing the photo.

I tried Barbara's instructions and also hid the left side folders. Hiding the left side folders at least created the option of saving in a version set, however when I did this it still did not show up in the organizer. After a lot of trial and error, I finally figured out the for some reason I was in a different catalog version of the organizer of which I did not create.

It appears ( not sure though, because the whole revel thing is very confusing to me) that if you have pictures in Revel, it creates a new catalog? I got out of this catalog and back into my original and it created and saved my version sets even with the left side folders showing. I have since turned Revel off and am not going to use it. Still not sure if it is going to happen again but so far so good.

Barbara's method worked on the first photo I edited and after that it did not work.

The best way that I discovered is to use one of the tools in the Organizer Instant Fix (lower right).

The use of any tool will create another layer. Then move to the Editor and do any editing you wish.. Elements 12 will then save the picture in a version set with the original..

I have the same problem. I have experienced the same issue, whereby the 1st image I edit does appear properly in the version set in the organiser, but then any subsequent ones don't at all - but are saved on the hard drive

I just tried Barbara's method again.. This time I put two spaces in the X86 file instruction and the computer responded to me that I needed authorization. Which I had, so the change was made.. The first time, I entered only one space in the words AutoAnalyzer etc... The space I entered was not there when I checked today so I tried the two space method. I edited a few photos and it seems that Barbara's method is okay... We will see if it works over the next week..

Windows 7. Just checked ElementsAutoAnalyzer.exe is running. The problem appears to be inconsistent. Sometimes it's OK, Sometimes it's OK for one or two pictures, then stops working....

Hi Michel
Running Win 8.
Yes ElementsAutoAnalyzer.exe process is not running...
I have just converted from PSE 11 to PSE 12. Everything worked just fine in PSE 11...

I have tried all the steps Barbara suggests and rebooted twice but nothing helps...

When I open an image in Editor from Organizer (lets call it OriginalImage) and makes some changes, and then saves it the first time I check the boxes "Save in Organizer" and "Save in version set" and save the image (lets call it Edit1Image) but Edit1Image does not appear in Organizer. If I then make additional changes to Edit1Image in Editor and saves it (lets call it Edit2Image), the box "Save in version set" is greyed out I cant check it....

If I then go back to Organizer I have OriginalImage and Edit2Image, but Edit1Image is not in the organizer - and Originalmage and Edit2Image is not in a version set. If I then add Edit1Image to Organizer and tries to put all three images in a stack, it says "Create Stack Failed"... If I try to stack only Edit1Image and EditI2mage (without OriginalImage) it works fine - but that does not really make any sense since I then have original image and the stack displayed...

Any ideas?
Does anyone know if Adobe is working on this error? Right now I am more keen to just ask for a refund and go back to PSE11 wich works perfect...

Before you can stack, you have to get the Edit2Image in the Organizer, which must be done manually, either by getting files from the real folder or using the watched folder service. That explain the error message after the attempt to stack, but the original problem sould be solved by Barbara's method.

What I can tell is that once I have 'killed' the ElementsAutoAnalyzer.exe process I have never had the problem again.
