Photoshop Elements: PSE 8Save File does not update time and date stamp to time of Save

When I save a file in Photoshop Elements 8.0, the file time and date stamp is not updated to the time of the save. The time and date stamp remains from the time of original file creation. The time and date stamp of the file should be updated to the time of the latest save of the file.

Hi Glenn,

The date which is shown in grid follows preference order:
Date time original ->date time digitized ->date time ->date created -> date modified.
(All these tags are present in 'metadata' pane of 'properties'.)

It means that for a media, Elements organizer (EO) will show 'date time original'. If this stamp is not present then EO will show 'date time digitized' and so on.

When you edit an image date time original, date time digitized for new image will be same as previous image. Hence EO shows same date time for both images.

Let me know if you have any queries.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. However, I'm referring to the 'Date' field in Windows Explorer. All other programs update the 'Date' field in Windows Explorer to the time at which a document was saved, however files saved in Photoshop Elements continue to show the original date of file creation in the Windows Explorer 'Date' field.

I can add the column 'Date Last Saved' in Windows Explorer and see that this date is correct to the last time the file was saved, but that's not practical as I use other programs such as MediaShout to import files saved in Photoshop Elements, and these other programs do not have a 'Date Last Saved' field in their file browsers.

I would expect Photoshop Elements to update the 'Date' field in Windows Explorer to the time and date the file was last saved in PSE.

Glenn,

I tried to reproduce your scenario. In all cases i tried, PSE updates date field of Win explorer successfully. I tried following scenarios on a JPEG file-
Open an image in PSE 8 Editor (directly from Win explorer) and edit it in PSE 8 Editor, then either select 'File->Save' or 'File->Save as' (without or with checking check box for 'Include in organizer'), the change in date field will be reflected (that is date modified will change).

On doing some editing in Oragnizer, organizer creates a verision set for the image which still reflects date change in win explorer.

Can you please give me your exact scenario (steps and file formats) to reproduce your scenario?

Thanks.

I think I figured what's going on here. In Windows 7, Windows Explorer displays 'Date' details by default, and it appears this field is actually the date the document or file was created, not modified, which is why this date/time stamp wasn't changing to the latest save date. Windows Explorer has a 'Date Last Saved' field which you can turn on. It's just an extra step, but now at least I can sort my images by the Date Modified.

Thanks for your help.
