I have issues with writing XMP. It takes forever. So I investigated a little and ended in one folder with 28 JPG's and 1 video (MOV). saving metadata for 1 file works well, saving it for the whole folder stalls. removing the video from the folder solves all problems.
So: XMP write has a bug when video is also present

I just tried doing Metadata > Save Metadata To File for a folder containing 8 .mov and .mp4 videos and several hundred photos, and it didn't stall. So I think the issue is likely specific to your configuration, catalog, or photos and videos.

Please do Help > system Info and report the exact version of LR and Windows / Mac.

Unfortunately, if Adobe can't replicate the problem, they're very unlikely to look at the problem.  They might take a look if you could prepared a test catalog with a single folder of the video and a few photos that illustrate the problem.  Zip up the catalog folder and the photo/video folder, upload to Dropbox or similar, and post the link here.

Same test, same folder, other computer, other OS (Mac instead of windows). Same problem. Please note these are completely new installs of lightroom directly from creative cloud. I am new to lightroom so no specific setting have been seen.
I use 'metagegevens opslaan' (store metadata) from the menu only for that specific folder.
