I have a Samsung D-Xenon 12-24mm F4 ED AL [IF] lens that is the Samsung
version (basically just rebranded) of the Pentax DA 12-24mm F4 ED AL [IF]. However, while Lightroom is able to identify the latter, the Samsung is not recognized. I am not talking about the profile (the Pentax one can be used since they are optically the same) but that the lens itself is not recognized from the EXIF information, so it is not possible to create collections for it, etc. Please add this lens to the lens database.

The EXIF LensType ID of this lens is 4 239 (the Pentax one is 4 248). It is recognized by the ExifTool perl utility.

ExifTool has nothing to do all day but cruise through the twisty passages of proprietary metadata. There really is no standard way to store this information, and the camera vendors have made it even more of a nightmare.

In any case, Lightroom does not recognize a lens that it should. Since Adobe points to this forum to report problems, that's what I did, hoping that someone from Adobe might read this and it would be fixed some day. This definitely was not meant as a putdown of Lightroom or Adobe.

Different manufacturers do place information in differing areas/fields of EXIF and or their own fields. I can't say if Samsung lens uses the same field as Pentax does. Thanks for bringing it up though.
