Photoshop: Replace Contents slow when using distort transforms

Replace Contents seems to hang often, even when the original Smart Object pixel dimensions are matched exactly (with new file). I can understand why a large file might cause problems, but it seems like if your new file is the exact dimensions as the Smart Object, it wouldn't hang so long (2-3 minutes).

I've tried this on Mac CS5 (12.0.1) and Windows CS5.1 with similar results.

Are you talking about Content Aware Fill?

Hi David-
I'm talking about Layer->Smart Objects->Replace Content...

After further investigation, I should note the problem is specific to when the Smart Object has been "Distorted" with the transform tool (also known as corner-pinning). If I rotate, scale or skew the smart object, it doesn't hang.

Thanks!

Warping doesn't seem to cause a problem either- just Distort.

If the new file is the same size, it actually replaces fine. I was mistaken when I tried that test (it was about 4 times bigger). So, if the file is bigger, it causes problems on the distort. I'll just match the image size before I do the Replace I guess.

Thanks.
