Renaming options for actions and droplets

Hi,
I am desperately missing the option, that an photoshop action can save something with an filename +suffix or +prefix.  The same with droplet actions, where I would like to add a suffix.
For example my Droplet is made to generate me a low resolution copy of my image as a JOG, so it would be good to get automatically the suffix "_lowres".
This is already possible, with the batch action, when manually a folder is choosen, but not for automated workflows.
p.s. And if you want to go one step further, give even more options to alter file name, like replacing letters :-)

I suppose many users could find that useful but instead of waiting for a Feature being implemented have you tried Photoshop Scripting yet?

Hi christoph,
of course scripting sounds interesting, but I imagine, that scripting is not easy to learn.
Currently I am learning about 5 or 6 different softwares (not included Photoshop, where I am composing professional since 1997) and my head feels bursting with all that learning stuff and so I am happy for everything that's already implemented.
If scripting would be something I could learn within few days, I would spend that time.
Until now I haven't found a simple nice tutorial, that made me hope that this is possible, only heavy books... If you now some suggestions, let me know ;)
And I am sure that for all other photoshop users a suggestion like this thread would be a help... even more as we handle more and more workloads every day.

The documentation for Photoshop Scripting is, in my experience, not easy to read and also not necessarily quite »complete«.
But there is a Forum with some helpful regulars:
https://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/photoshop_scripting/content

I suppose the language JavaScript is not terribly complicated and Photoshop’s Document Object Model is not terribly voluminous, still I’m not sure how quickly one can familiarise oneself with both ...
But the »Scripting« necessary to save copies with amended names or in certain locations (absolute or relative to the active file) should be manageable, especially if you start with an existing one and tweak that to meet your needs.

An added benefit might be that some other Adobe applications can be automated with JavaScript, too, though their DOMs are naturally different from Photoshop’s.
