Lightroom Classic: renaming for export

You no longer are given a choice of custom naming for exported files. Instead you are given the choice to edit your import naming preset. Although customer service showed me that changing the preset here doesn't alter the preset rules, this is EXTREMELY CONFUSING. I shouldn't have to contact customer service to determine that I can edit this section without affecting my preset. The previous method gave a choice of a custom name for the exported file. This allowed you to know exactly what you were renaming. File naming is an extremely important function in LR. There should be zero confusion as to what you are doing with this. Please fix this!

I'm not seeing any change in file naming in Export, @tootpiccshopping. In the File Naming section, click on the Rename To dropdown, choose Edit, then set up whatever renaming algorithm you want. Then click on the dropdown again and choose Save as New Preset.  Note that if your goal is to set up a new preset, it doesn't matter which one is selected in the dropdown to start with - just don't click on the dropdown and choose Update Preset - that would overwrite the first one with your new settings.

I too don't see any change from the past.  Do you not see a dialogue like this when you choose to export?

That said, I agree that it's not a particularly intuitive process.

Are you using the Classic version of Lr or the other one which stole its name?

We have not done any changes in the file renaming for exported files. Could you please provide detailed steps to replicate the issue?

Just an editorial comment, using presets for everything is slow, confusing, and doesn't work well. Presets are fine but there should also just be an open section to enter data- especially one-time settings.

This is true on import as well, try setting up metadata import presets and then needing to make changes every time you do an import. Whoever designed this apparently doesn't use the program.
