Has anyone ever memorized how blend modes work without having to blindly go through the list, it appears to me that most go the blind route ?

You're right ! I often use these modes blindly or almost...
I only know how to expect for multiply, luminosity, color, incrustation or maybe one or two other modes...
I must admit it's not very convenient, but I imagine a description of what produce each mode will be very hard to understand and visualize, isn't it ?
So it ever such a list was existing, it would not be really usefull...

Personnaly, when I grope blindly among these modes, Yet I do not lose much time :
I click on the first mode of the list and then I use the arrow keys to move from one mode to another. .. it is very effective. In any case, certainly more than a thousand words!
Hope this helps...

Most people appear to remember them fairly quickly. The blend modes are grouped by approximate function (darkening, lightening, difference/math, and hue/saturation operations) - so you shouldn't have to try them blindly.

It's not to say that don't have an understanding of how they work, I've grown to understand some of them, I was more curious as to how many go through the list blindly.
