When I change from folder A to folder B then back to folder A, the first image in folder A is alway selected. Similarly, filter settings should not be lost. I think it would be much better if it worked like this...In folder A, I have image 23 selected. I switch to folder B. Then I switch back to folder A and image 23 is still selected (and the filters are the way I left them in folder A instead of being cleared).

Sorry. Not used to using feedback outside the app (where this would be automatic).

I am using Lightroom 2015.1.1

I can't believe that this time saver feature is still not implemented!

Filters are not cleared if you click the small lock icon all the way on the left of the filter bar. The problem of Lightroom not remembering the selected image is indeed annoying.

You are right filters are not reset, but instead of creating a new topic I chimed in here.

Just to be clear, are you proposing that Lr remember the last image you had selected in every folder?

I can see value in remembering the last image when going back and forth between a few folders in a short period of time, but wouldn't necessarily want Lr to go back to image #23 in a folder that I haven't touched in 6+ months.

Also, what would the proposed behavior be if you had multiple images selected, navigated to another folder, and then came back?  Should all of those images be selected again?

Yes, exactly, I would love to have LR to show the folder, with the last image or selection of images when moving away and coming back to a folder. It could be a general setting how LR should behave, leaving and returning to a folder.

  • remember selected photo(s)
  • remember selected photo(s) only for the current session
  • always show first image of folder
When searching images spread over multiple folders I often have to jump to another folder, as there is a particular image I have in mind that lives at another folder. So I jump into that folder to make a selection, tagging or rating to this image, then I want to jump back to the folder I was in before to continue my search from where I left the folder.

The Any Source plugin keeps a history of the most recent source, filter, and selection combinations, and provides Back and Forward commands for moving back and forth through the history.    It's not quite as convenient as having LR's Back command work this way, but it gets the job done for me.

Hey John,

with the plugin to make it work, I need to assign keyboard shortcuts and use these instead of just clicking with the mouse etc. (as I used to navigate in LR)?

Cheers
Joerg

You don't need to assign keyboard shortcuts -- you can use the menu commands File > Plug-In Extras > Back / Forward. That's obviously less convenient than either a shortcut or having the feature built-in to LR, and assigning a shortcut can be inconvenient too (especially on Windows).
