Photoshop: Refine Edge Tool crashes on Color Fill Layer

Hey,
In the past few days I've been working a lot with selecting and masking, therefore I was using the refine edge tool in the "select and mask" window from time to time aswell. Everything worked fine (and that tool is great btw), but yesterday I stumbled across a huge problem.
I selected a logo on a shirt with the quick selection tool and wanted to change its color. I created a solid color fill layer/solid color adjustment layer (don't know the exact description) and applied my raw selection as mask to it. Then I wanted to finetune it with the "select and mask" option and the refine edge tool, to get some hair out of the selection.
Selecting itself works fine, but as soon as I release the mosue button, the "loading-indicator" will show up instead of the mouse/refine edge tool. You can't click on anything in Photoshop, you can't close photoshop with rightclicking it in the taskbar (it will ask you if you want to apply the selection tho, but will remain opened), you can't save anything. This will stay for at least 30 minutes, didn't wait any longer until I killed PS over task manager.
Closing Photoshop with the task manager will of course erase any progress not saved and give me an error message (sometimes 3, sometimes none)
It actually took me a while and a few images to realise what the problem was. At first I thought it's the files size/resolution/bit/whatever, but I could duplicate that issue several times with the color fill layer.
By the way, I tried resetting my preferences, but the Ctrl+Alt+Shift thing didn't work and nothing showed up, tried it several times. But not sure if that would solve it anyways. Anything else up to date.
PS: In case someone wonders, screenshots are german.

Do you happen to be using a wacom when you're in S&M?

Nope, didn't use any tablet or pad - mouse and keyboard.
But might soon, is there any issue in using one with S&M?

Could you post a file and the steps you do to trigger it? (dropbox or Creative Cloud)

File is this one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/na9klf95qjj9fgk/IMG_0103.JPG?dl=0
Steps are: 1) Select random area roughly (I did it where logo and hair meets), 2) create color layer out of selection, 3) S&M refine edge tool anywhere.
Rasterizing or making a smart object out of the background ("Hintergrund") doesn't change anything.

Can't screenshot the state after brushing with refine edge tool, cursor would vanish when capturing.

PS: Something I just discovered - took a random google image from "hair"-search results and then it didn't crash. Maybe it's really the file size? Or something else? Had this happen on multiple images, but they were all kind of similar, taken with similar cameras and around the same file and pixel size.

Thanks. I'm trying with the file and can't repro. Perhaps I don't have the same settings in Select and Mask. Any chance you could make a video recording showing the problem? That might give us the final clues we're missing.
